Boy, 5, dies after falling into Riverview swimming pool

RIVERVIEW — A 5-year-old boy died Sunday night after he slipped into a Riverview apartment complex swimming pool and drowned, Hillsborough County sheriff's officials said.

Torrey Davis was playing near the pool with his mother at the Preserve at Alafia Apartments, at 9906 Azalea Bloom Way, authorities said.

At some point, Torrey's mother left him unattended to check on some food, officials said.

She returned two minutes later to find a crowd gathering poolside, where someone was pulling the boy from the water, officials said. He was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital.

He died just after 8 p.m.
