A motorcyclist died Thursday night after a car turned into his path on a Brandon road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Around 6:57 p.m., 23-year-old Orlando Rodriguez Jr., of Brandon, was riding a Kawasaki ZX1000-J motorcycle northbound on Kings Avenue, south of Southview Drive, deputies said.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Burch, 31, of Brandon, was driving a red 2006 Volvo XC90 southbound on Kings Avenue, approaching Southview Drive.

Deputies say Burch slowed to make a left turn onto eastbound Southview Drive, and failed to see Rodriguez traveling in the opposite direction. She turned into his path, causing the motorcycle to strike the rear passenger side of the Volvo. Rodriguez was wearing a helmet during the impact, deputies said.

He was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital where he later died, deputies.
