Brandon pedestrian killed when hit by car

BRANDON — A 20-year-old Brandon man died late Thursday when he crossed a busy street against traffic and was hit by a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Joshua Emilio Chervoni was walking south about 10:07 p.m. on Brandon Town Center Boulevard, moving along the crosswalk to cross the intersection of Brandon Parkway, troopers said. At the same time, the traffic signal was green for cars headed east on Brandon Parkway.

As Chervoni walked across the eastbound lanes, a 2012 Volkswagen slammed into him, troopers said. He died at the scene.

The driver, Carlos Mangual Lopez, 49, of Valrico, and his three passengers, were not injured.
