5-year-old girl injured after being struck by car in Dover

DOVER — A 5-year-old girl was in serious condition after being hit by a car Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Kalie Williams had gotten off a school bus and checked her family's mail when she was hit by a 2002 Mazda driven by Barbara Heredia, 25, of Plant City, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Kalie had been crossing Jerry Smith Road from east to west just before 4 p.m. when she was hit. The crash happened near Hollyberry Lane, where the girl lives.

She was flown to Tampa General Hospital where she was in serious condition Wednesday night, the Sheriff's Office said.

The investigation is ongoing.
