Clearwater man, 81, killed in crash in Oldsmar

An 81-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Oldsmar Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred about 2:47 p.m. at the intersection of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive. Joseph Mikuliza of Clearwater was killed.

Pinellas sheriff's deputies said his wife, Marie Mikuliza, 65, was driving a 2005 Cadillac DeVille west on Tampa Road and was making a left turn onto St. Petersburg Drive. Her car was struck on the passenger side by two vehicles — a Jeep Liberty driven by Arianis Vevero-Pompa, 32, and a Ford Fusion driven by Dustin Keithly, 31.

Joseph Mikuliza was trapped in the wreckage for about a half-hour before firefighters from Oldsmar Fire Rescue extricated him. He was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m., deputies said.

His wife was taken to St. Joseph's with injuries that were not considered life threatening. The other drivers were not injured.

The crash remained under investigation Wednesday night.
