Clearwater man critically injured in collision with dump truck

PALM HARBOR — A 28-year-old man was hospitalized early Tuesday after crashing into a dump truck that was entering a construction zone along U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

About 1:40 a.m., a Jeep Wrangler driven by Daniel Charles Hullett of Clearwater was headed south on U.S. 19 near Nebraska Avenue when he slammed into the dump truck.

The Jeep caught fire after the impact. Hullett was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries, troopers said. The dump truck driver, Liduvino Riveron, 40, of Tampa sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

Charges were pending, troopers said. An investigation remained under way at midday Tuesday.
