Coast Guard rescues three from sinking boat 1½ miles east of Sunshine Skyway

ST. PETERSBURG — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people who were clinging to a sinking boat about 1.5 miles east of the Sunshine Skyway on Sunday afternoon, the Coast Guard said.

No one was injured.

A witness called 911 about 1:18 p.m. after seeing three people aboard a 22-foot Sea Cat that was taking on water, according to the Coast Guard.

All but 4 feet of the boat's bow was under water when the Coast Guard arrived.

The people were taken to O'Neill's Marina in St. Petersburg.

Ramon Garza, 66, who owns the boat, has made arrangements to salvage the vessel. No pollution was reported, according to the Coast Guard.

All three passengers were wearing life jackets.
