A Colombian man drowned near Fort De Soto Park Saturday afternoon while swimming with his family, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Jaime Suarez, 73, was swimming near the Fort De Soto Pier around 3 p.m. when family noticed he was motionless. Family and others at the beach pulled him from the water and called emergency responders.
Paramedics arrived and gave CPR to Suarez and rushed him to the hospital. He later died. Authorities said the drowning appears to be accidental, but are not sure if health complications contributed to his death.
