A 26-year-old Haines City construction worker was seriously injured after being hit by a semitrailer truck early Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jesus L. Gonzales was working on a construction site on the northbound inside lane of Interstate 75 about 1.6 miles south of State Road 56 in Hillsborough County. The lane was closed, according to troopers.

Antonio Graham, 34, from Decatur, Ga., was driving on I-75 in the outside lane. He braked sharply, causing his trailer to weave into the inside lane and strike Gonzales, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gonzales was taken to Tampa General Hospital by helicopter. He was in stable condition.

Graham faces a charge of failure to use due care, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
