ST. PETERSBURG — A motorist faces charges after he rear-ended another car Sunday on Gandy Boulevard and sent it crashing into the Crab Shack restaurant, the state patrol said.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened about 8 a.m. as Darren Kendrick Adderly II, 28, of Tampa was driving a Dodge Challenger east on Gandy, approaching San Fernando Drive. A Chevrolet Impala in front of him, driven by Guadalupe Martinez, 23, of Bowling Green was slowing. Adderly ran into the Chevy, troopers said, sending it off the roadway.
Adderly and a passenger in Martinez's car — Adam Gonzalez, 25, of Bowling Green — were hospitalized with minor injuries. The crash caused about $5,000 in damage to the restaurant, but nobody inside was hurt.
Adderly faces charges of careless driving and driving with a suspended license, troopers said.
