Daughter of former bay area news anchor killed in South Carolina car accident

Former 10 News anchor Marty Matthews was involved in a Christmas Eve car accident in South Carolina that killed her 28-year-old daughter and left her husband seriously injured, according to the station's website.

Matthews, her 66-year-old husband, Edward Austin, and their daughter, Emily Austin, were traveling to North Carolina when Edward Austin lost control of the Cadillac SUV in the rain, ran off the road and crashed into some trees, 10 News reported.

Emily Austin died at the scene. Edward Austin was critically injured, according to 10 News, and remains in the intensive care unit at Medical University of South Carolina.

Matthews spent 15 years with 10 News, anchoring the station's 4 p.m. newscast and reporting a popular weekly segment called Wednesday's Child, which profiled children seeking adoption.
