Delivery truck crashes into Hillsborough County Health Department

TAMPA — A black Mustang blew a red light and smashed into a delivery truck, sending it crashing through a wall of the Hillsborough County Health Department at 12:53 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

The delivery truck, an R+L Carriers truck similar to a U-Haul, broke through the outside of the health department at 1105 E Kennedy Blvd. and came to a rest inside a stairwell of the building, according to an incident report.

One person had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, said Tampa Fire Rescue spokeswoman Debra Sue Warshefski. The damage to the building appears to be minimal.

"There's very little structural damage so there's little reason to believe it should be closed," Warshefski said.

Caitlin Johnston can be reached at or (813)225-3111.
