Deputies investigate fatal motorcycle crash in Oldsmar

OLDSMAR — Pinellas sheriff's deputies were investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Friday evening in Oldsmar.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Tampa and Burbank roads, officials said. A 2001 Hyundai was traveling east on Tampa Road when the driver tried to turn left onto Burbank, deputies said.

As the car turned, a motorcycle, which was traveling west on Tampa Road, slammed into a rear passenger door of the car, officials said. The rider was later taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.

Authorities were withholding the motorcyclist's name until family could be notified.

No charges had been announced but an investigation was ongoing.
