MADEIRA BEACH — A St. Petersburg man was taken to the hospital early Sunday after he crashed a pickup into Madeira Beach Fundamental School.
Pinellas Sheriff's deputies said they suspect alcohol played a role in the single-vehicle accident that occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday.
According to deputies, Michael Roy, 37, drove his 1995 Chevrolet pickup through the intersection of Duhme Road and Tom Stuart Causeway into the school parking lot, hitting a guardrail and running into the school, 591 Tom Stuart Causeway.
Deputies said Roy's injuries were not life threatening.
According to a Bay News 9 video report, damage to the school appeared fairly significant.
