TAMPA — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is searching for a pickup truck driver suspected of killing a Tampa woman in an overnight hit-and-run near Town 'N Country.
Sherry Lynn Hunter, 60, wasn't using a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle about 10:38 p.m. Tuesday while walking across W Waters Avenue, just east of Wilsky Boulevard, deputies said.
She died at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators don't know the tag number of the vehicle that hit Hunter while traveling westbound on Waters Avenue, the sheriff's office said. The agency said Wednesday that deputies are now searching for a suspect in a silver Toyota Tacoma built between 2005 and 2011.
The vehicle involved was initially believed to be a dark-colored Toyota that the sheriff's office said likely has front-end damage to the grill and headlights.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200. To be eligible for a cash reward of up to $3,000, call Crime Stoppers Tampa Bay toll-free at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online at www.crimestopperstb.com or through the agency's smartphone app, "P3 Tips Mobile."
