RUSKIN — A man died Wednesday morning after his car slammed into the side of a semitrailer truck that pulled in front of him near Ruskin, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The truck, a flatbed trailer hauling cement construction casings, had just left the northbound side of Interstate 75 at Exit 240 about 6:40 a.m., according to the FHP. At the end of the exit ramp, the truck turned left onto College Avenue.
At the same time, a 2011 Nissan Altima was headed east on College Avenue. The truck pulled into its path and the car's driver was unable to stop before colliding with the trailer, troopers said.
The car's driver, Giscard A. Frederique, 35, of Ruskin, was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died, authorities said. It was unclear if the truck driver, Thomas Wayne Crawford, 55, of Bradenton, was injured.
The crash remained under investigation.
