A motorist faces a DUI marijuana charge after striking and killing a bicyclist Sunday night as the bicyclist tried to cross U.S. 19 in Hudson, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 10:13 p.m., Ali Hazime, 25, of Holiday, was traveling south in the center lane of U.S. 19 in a 2007 Ford Explorer, troopers said.

Hazime was approaching the Hudson Avenue intersection as Grady Miles, 49, of St. Petersburg, was riding his bicycle east across U.S. 19, just north of Hudson Avenue in the southbound center lane.

Miles traveled into the path of Hazime's Explorer and was struck by the front of the vehicle, troopers said.

Miles suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Hazime, who was not injured in the crash, was later arrested and faces a misdemeanor DUI charge for marijuana.
