HOLIDAY — One man is dead and another on the run after a hit-and-run wreck on U.S. 19 early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
The crash happened at 12:47 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Flora Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which gave this account:
A 1990 Jeep Wrangler was stopped facing west on Flora, east of U.S. 19, but then ran the red light anyway. A 2009 Yamaha motorcycle heading north on U.S. 19 struck the Wrangler, ejecting the motorcycle driver and the passenger in the Wrangler from their vehicles.
The passenger in the Wrangler, an unidentified 23-year-old man from Guatemala, was then hit by a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta that had been heading south on U.S. 19. The Guatemalan man was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he died, according to the patrol.
The driver of the Wrangler, who has not been identified, ran away and has not been located, the patrol said.
The driver of the motorcycle, Albert C. Herman, 36, of Holiday suffered serious injuries, according to the patrol. The two people in the Jetta were not injured.
The patrol is asking anyone with information on the location or identity of the driver of the Wrangler to call (813) 631-4020.
