ST. PETERSBURG — The driver of a sport utility vehicle was hospitalized Monday afternoon after losing control and crashing into a concrete mailbox, authorities said.

The unidentified driver of the 1994 Cadillac was headed west on 62nd Avenue N near 30th Way at 4:58 p.m. when he lost control, jumped the curb and struck the mailbox, said Sgt. Larry Kraus of the Florida Highway Patrol. The car landed on its side.

The driver was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Debris from the crash went flying through several windows of an adjacent home, but no one else was hurt.
