Semitrailer driver from Orlando killed in crash on I-75 in Hernando

BROOKSVILLE — A semitrailer carrying lime rock overturned Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Hernando County, killing the driver and snarling southbound traffic for hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. near mile marker 295. The 43-year-old driver, of Orlando, who was operating a truck for Jay-C Trucking of Orlando, left the roadway and hit a tree, causing the truck to overturn and throwing the driver from the cab, said patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins. Both southbound lanes were closed for several hours.

Troopers were continuing to investigate. The name of the driver was not released, pending notification of his family.
