Dunedin man killed in crash on SR 580 in North Pinellas

CLEARWATER — A two-car crash Sunday afternoon near the intersection of State Road 580 and U.S. 19 killed one the drivers, authorities said.

Jeffrey A. Spink, 57, was leaving work at a Lowe's home improvement store near the intersection when his 2001 Pontiac Firebird was hit by a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jessica L. Feihl, 18, of Safety Harbor, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

About 12:45 p.m., Spink was leaving a side road and trying to turn left across several lanes of traffic to go west on SR 580 to Dunedin. Feihl was driving east in the center lane.

Deputies said Feihl struck Spink's Firebird in the driver's door. Spink, of Dunedin, was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital where he later died.

No charges have been filed and the crash remained under investigation.
