DUNEDIN — Investigators said Tuesday that a 21-year-old woman was driving drunk when she hit another car head-on in April, seriously injuring a passenger in the other car.

Alexx M. Camacho, of 515 Locklie Street in Dunedin, was arrested Tuesday after test results showed she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.206 percent.

That's more than twice the threshold at which Florida law presumes someone is unable to safely drive a motor vehicle.

Camacho surrendered to authorities Tuesday morning.

She is charged with driving while intoxicated, DUI with property damage, DUI with serious bodily injury and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

Authorities say Camacho was northbound on Patricia Avenue in a Hyundai Sonata about 4 a.m. April 1 when she tried to beat the light and make a left onto Beltrees Street.

But she collided with a Dodge Spirit southbound on Patricia, deputies said.

The driver of the Dodge, Brandi Berarducci, now 28, of Seminole, suffered minor injuries, as did Camacho.

Berarducci's passenger, 20-year-old Timothy Bergthold of Clearwater, suffered serious head injuries and facial fractures, deputies said.

On Tuesday evening, Camacho was held in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $15,500 bail.

Pinellas court records show adjudication was withheld after Camacho pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of retail theft in 2009.

She does not have any other criminal history in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
