Woman dies in wreck that closes part of I-75

RIVERVIEW — An Ohio woman died Friday afternoon after she drove her van into the back of a semitrailer truck on Interstate 75, authorities said.

Veronica R. Edwards, 42, of Cincinnati, was driving south on I-75 in a 2000 Chrysler van just after 3 p.m. when she slammed into the back of a Mack semi-trailer driven by Yadian Perez Rodriguez, 30, of Tampa, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Rodriguez was pulling over in the emergency lane just south of the Big Bend Road exit when Edwards hit his truck. She had started to exit I-75 at Big Bend Road, then tried to swerve back onto the highway before she drove into the back of the truck.

Edwards died at the scene. Rodriguez was not injured. Part of I-75 was closed for more than three hours after the wreck.
