FHP identifies those involved in Tuesday night crash on U.S. 19

PALM HARBOR — The Florida Highway Patrol identified those involved in a U.S. Highway 19 accident Tuesday night that injured an FHP trooper and a pedestrian.

About 7:10 p.m., an FHP Chevy Impala, a 2004 Mercedes and a tow truck were pulled over on U.S. 19 north of Curlew Road, in the left northbound turn lane, while the FHP community service officer investigated an earlier crash, said spokesman Sgt. Larry Kraus.

A 2001 Toyota truck, driven by 22-year-old Randy Abbarno of Safety Harbor, was heading north in the right travel lane when he lost control and hit the FHP cruiser. The cruiser knocked into the officer, 59-year-old John Manna, and a pedestrian, 74-year-old Marion Carl Nest, of Palm Harbor.

The cruiser then hit the Mercedes in front of it and the tow truck, FHP said.

Manna and Nest were taken to Bayfront Medical Center. Late Tuesday night, Manna was listed in stable condition, and Nest was in serious but stable condition.
