FHP: Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in Largo

LARGO — A 22-year-old pedestrian died early Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Ulmerton Road and 34th Way N, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At about 1:34 a.m. Wednesday, Jesse-James Redmond of Largo was trying to cross Ulmerton Road from south to north when he was struck on his right side by a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling west. Redmond was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was Jackie Randall, 28, of Pinellas Park. Largo resident Ricky Garland, 41, was a passenger in the vehicle. Both individuals were wearing seat belts, and neither sustained injuries.

All lanes of Ulmerton Road were reopened by 5 a.m.

FHP officials are still trying to determine whether alcohol had anything to do with the collision.
