FHP: Teen pedestrian hit by car in Spring Hill

SPRING HILL — A 15-year-old was in serious condition Thursday night after a vehicle hit her from behind as she walked in the road.

John Morris Lockhart, 59, of Spring Hill, was driving a 1997 Ford Escort westbound on Roble Avenue at about 7:20 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He turned north onto Colchester Avenue at the intersection, troopers say, and hit two girls walking north in the northbound lane.

The crash sent Hope Malave of Spring Hill into the center of Colchester, troopers say. Malave was taken to Bayfront Medical Center and transferred to All Children's Hospital, where she was stable.

Lockhart's left side mirror hit Tiana Gonzalez, 17, of Spring Hill in her left elbow. Her injuries were considered minor.

Charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
