Driver, motorcyclist survive crash, state troopers say, but are killed by a third vehicle

HUDSON — Two men died when they were both struck by a truck shortly after crashing into each other late Sunday night in Hudson.

Kenneth Michael Demmith, 29, of Zephyrhills was headed west about 9:10 p.m., riding a Lifan G20-5 motorcycle on Hudson Avenue west of Edwards Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At the same time, Terry Maurice Edwards, 72, of Hudson was headed east on the same road in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

As the truck and the motorcycle approached each other, Edwards began to make a left turn into a private driveway at 11029 Hudson Ave., troopers said. The truck moved into the path of the motorcycle, which clipped the back end of the pickup and spun, throwing Demmith onto the road.

Edwards stopped, got out of the truck and walked over to Demmith, troopers said. At that moment, another Chevrolet Silverado pickup headed east slammed into both Edwards and Demmith. Both died at the scene.

The driver of the second truck, John Lindsay, 59, of Hudson was not injured, troopers said. The crash remained under investigation Monday morning.
