TAMPA — Five people were hospitalized with serious injuries after a car crash early Sunday.
Lester Abreu, 39, was driving east on W Hillsborough Avenue about 3:35 a.m. and tried to turn left onto Benjamin Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said. He cut into the path of Ebonie Johnson, 21, who was driving in the opposite direction on Hillsborough Avenue.
Abreu and passenger Yoanna Marquez Cabrera, 22, both of Tampa, were taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Johnson, of Palmetto, also was in serious condition. Passengers Je'Lissa Turner, 19, was in critical condition and Samantha Ruffing, 21, was in serious condition.
An investigation is ongoing.
