Floral City woman dies after crash last week

FLORAL CITY — An Inverness man was charged with DUI manslaughter Sunday after a passenger died when his pickup truck overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Steven M. Dickson, 62, was driving on County Road 48 near Istachatta Road on Thursday night when he swerved to avoid an animal in the road, the patrol said. But he lost control of the Chevrolet SSR and it went on the shoulder and overturned.

Both he and his passenger, Deborah A. Dickson, 62, of Floral City were ejected.

The patrol said that Steven Dickson's blood-alcohol level was 0.155, or nearly twice the legal limit.

Deborah Dickson was transported to Tampa General Hospital. She died there, the patrol said Sunday.
