Hernando car crash kills Tampa woman

BROOKSVILLE — A Tampa woman died Saturday night when the car in which she was a passenger left the road and rolled several times on Interstate 75 in Hernando County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Tessa Byers, 19, was ejected from the car as it rolled. She died at the scene, the patrol said.

Russell Colleran, 19, was driving the Dodge Caliber north on I-75 just south of State Road 50 when, for unknown reasons, the car veered off the road and onto a grass shoulder, the patrol said. It overturned several times.

Byers was not wearing a seat belt. Colleran, who is also from Tampa, was taken to Pasco Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
