Hillsborough boy conscious, crying after being struck by minivan

RUSKIN — A medical helicopter rushed a 5-year-old boy to Tampa General Hospital after he was hit by a minivan on Saturday night.

The child, whose name was not released, was at an end-of-the-year neighborhood party at 21st Avenue SE and 23 Street SE around 9 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the boy saw his mother and cousin on the opposite side of the street and, when he ran to them, crossed the path of an oncoming minivan.

The minivan struck the boy, leaving him with a gash on his head, deputies said. But the boy was conscious, crying and able to move his limbs when paramedics arrived to treat him.

No other information about the accident was released by the Sheriff's Office.
