Hillsborough Fire Rescue uses airbags to free man whose hand is pinned by overturned car

WIMAUMA — Rescuers used giant air bags to raise an overturned sport-utility vehicle that had fallen into a embankment and trapped the driver on State Road 674 at Carlton Branch Road Tuesday night.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue began trying to free the man whose hand was pinned between the vehicle's roof and the ground near 8:40 p.m., said Acting Battalion Chief Eric Vincent.

"He was about 12 feet down in the embankment and he was seat belted in," Vincent said.

The man was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to fire rescue.

One lane of 674 remained open during the rescue.

Vincent said the cause of the crash is not yet known but the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
