Hillsborough man dies in Clearwater motorcycle wreck

CLEARWATER — A Hillsborough County man died Saturday night in a motorcycle wreck after driving recklessly, according to Clearwater police.

Justin Leigh Asmundo, 25, was driving a yellow Suzuki GSX motorcycle east on Causeway Boulevard near Island Way at excessive speeds when he went airborne, hit the median and was thrown from the bike and into a small tree, police said.

Asmundo, who lived near Carrollwood, had been driving in the curb lane approaching a small bridge before the crash, witnesses told police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday, and police partially closed Causeway Boulevard until 11:50 p.m.

Asmundo had been arrested four times, the last in 2009, on driving under the influence charges, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office records.
