ST. PETERSBURG — Police were investigating the death of a homeless man who was believed to have fallen into Booker Creek Thursday night and drowned.
The man, whose identity authorities did not immediately release, was underneath a bridge about 7 p.m. in the 1200 block of 4th Street S when he slipped off the creek bank and into the water, police said.
Other homeless people in the area heard the man fall, police said. They jumped in and pulled him out, but the man was dead by the time rescuers arrived.
The death appeared to be an accidental drowning, police said. The man's body was taken to the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office, where the official cause of death will be determined.
