Homosassa man dies when motorcycle collides with SUV

TARPON SPRINGS — A 36-year-old Homosassa man died Friday night when his motorcycle collided with an SUV.

James Barile was driving his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle south on East Lake Road around 9:15 p.m. as Marilyn Hedger, 77, of Trinity, was driving her 2010 Cadillace SUV east on Bryan Lane.

Hedger entered the intersection and drove across the southbound lanes of East Lake Road, crossing in front of Barile, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Barile hit the brakes to avoid hitting Hedger, but crashed into the left side of her SUV, authorities said.

Barile, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hedger was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol says alcohol was not a factor. No charges have been filed and the investigation continues.
