Hudson driver dies while suffering chest pain, striking pole

NEW PORT RICHEY — A man died Saturday while suffering chest pain, losing control of his van and striking a power pole on Moon Lake Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Emile Skiba, 51, of Hudson grabbed his chest as he was driving a 2004 Toyota van just south of Boca Grande Avenue, according to the patrol. Troopers said he skidded onto the east shoulder of the road around 6:40 p.m., where the front in of the van smashed into the pole.

Skiba was taken to Morton Plant North Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, 50-year-old Laurie A. Skiba, was not seriously injured, the patrol said.
