Hudson man struck by car, killed while crossing U.S. 19

HUDSON — A 44-year-old man died Saturday evening after being struck by a car while crossing U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Joseph W. Haines of Hudson was pushing a shopping cart across the highway near Beach Boulevard, less than a mile north of State Road 52, when he was struck about 6:45 p.m. by a Mercury Grand Marquis driving north, troopers said.

The impact knocked the cart into a Honda Accord in the left turn lane.

Haines, 44, died at the scene. The driver of the Mercury, Raymond Boschen, 64, and his passenger Barbara Boschen, 63, were not hurt.

Troopers are still investigating to determine who was at fault.
