Impaired driver, 28, crashes into tree and dies in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — A 28-year-old man is dead after he crashed his 2011 Chevrolet HHR into a tree near the 2100 block of Park Street N, according to St. Petersburg police.

Officers said he was impaired by alcohol.

At 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, the man was driving southbound on Park Street N when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. His vehicle jumped the curb, left the road and hit the tree.

Police did not immediately identify the man. He was taken to Bayfront Health, where he was pronounced dead.

He was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

    KISSIMMEE — A Kissimmee police officer died and a second was gravely wounded Friday night, police Chief Jeff O'Dell said.
