Eight students suffer minor injuries in Riverview school bus crash

Eight Spoto High School students were taken to hospitals with minor injuries after their school bus was involved in a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Riverview, authorities said.

One of the other drivers also was taken to the hospital, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. Five of the injured students were taken to Brandon Regional Hospital by their parents and two were transported by ambulance, the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office said. One student was taken to Florida Hospital Tampa by a parent.

Only one eastbound lane of Progress Boulevard is open due to the crash, which happened about 4 p.m. at the intersection of Progress Boulevard and U.S. 301.
