A 70-year-old ship inspector was rescued after falling in the hold of a phosphate carrier Monday, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

The man, whose name was not available, was doing an inspection on the Mount Hope at the CSX terminal at 3701 Causeway Blvd., when he fell nearly 10 feet inside the hold just before 8 p.m.

Tampa Fire Rescue sent its hazardous materials and heavy rescue team, which stabilized the man and lifted him out of the hold. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not available, but he was awake during the rescue, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny said.
