Kenneth City woman, 34, seriously injured in 'severely crushed' car

LARGO — A Kenneth City woman was seriously injured in a car crash south of the Bayside Bridge Tuesday morning.

Jamie Nicole Francis, 34, was driving a 1999 Honda Accord north on 49th Street in Largo, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. As she approached the Bayside Bridge shortly before 11:20 a.m., the vehicle began to weave "erratically" between lanes, the Highway Patrol said.

The car traveled onto the inside shoulder of the road then over-corrected, veering to the outside shoulder. Francis' Honda continued down a grassy embankment at the south end of the bridge and hit a tree.

Rescue workers extricated Francis from the "severely crushed" car, troopers said. She was then taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries.

The bridge's northbound lanes were closed to traffic while emergency officials rescued Francis and cleaned up the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
