Land O'Lakes woman dies after crash on State Road 54

Collision with truck kills woman in car

A Land O'Lakes woman died Thursday after the car she was riding in crashed into a Pasco County truck hauling a utility trailer, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Tawil Newell, 65, and Robert Martinez, 71, also of Land O'Lakes, were driving eastbound on State Road 54 around noon. Martinez, who was driving, entered the left turn lane near Old Cypress Creek Drive.

Lawrence Stram, 43, of Hudson, was driving the county's Ford F-450 westbound on State Road 54 when Martinez turned into the side of the truck, authorities said.

Both Martinez and Newell were airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital.

Newell later died of her injuries.
