Land O'Lakes woman, 68, in critical condition after crash

LAND O'LAKES — A 68-year-old woman is in critical condition after her car clipped another and ran off the road.

Margaret Kirk Meek may have "suffered an incapacitating medical event" prior to losing control of her car about 8:30 a.m. Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Meek was driving west on Hale Road, near King Lake Drive, when her Hyundai Elantra crossed into opposing traffic, FHP said. An eastbound Ford truck veered to avoid a collision, but Meek's car hit the rear tire of the truck's utility trailer. Her car continued off-road, running over several small trees until it stopped in a wooded area.

Meek, of Land O'Lakes, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Her passenger, Linda Horn Murray, 69, also of Land O'Lakes, and the occupants of the truck were not injured.
