Largo man hurt when beer truck plunges into Manatee River

ELLENTON — A Largo man was seriously hurt Thursday morning after the semitrailer truck he was driving crashed into the Manatee River.

Kevin Dennison, 40, was driving north on Interstate 75 on the Manatee River Bridge when he lost control of the truck, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

While driving through an early morning storm, he hit a barrier on the bridge and drove off the road, the patrol said. The truck hit the water and partially submerged about 4:30 a.m.

Dennison was taken to Blake Medical Center.

The FHP said the trailer was empty. The truck was typically used to carry beer, according to Bay News 9.

All lanes of the highway were reopened by 9:30 a.m.
