Lithia woman, 87, killed in Plant City crash

PLANT CITY — An 87-year-old woman was killed Friday morning when she drove through a Plant City intersection into the path of a pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mary Conrad Lane, of Lithia, was headed east just after 9 a.m. on Holloway Road approaching James L. Redman Parkway in a 2010 Buick Lucerne, officials said. At the same time, a 2001 Nissan Frontier was headed south on the parkway approaching the intersection.

As Lane moved into the intersection, the Frontier collided with the driver's side of the Lucerne, troopers said. Lane was injured and died at the scene of the crash.

The Frontier's driver, Thomas Cross Hoopes, 32, of Tampa, was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, officials said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
