A man stands near a vehicle involved in Tuesday’s accident on U.S. 19 at Harn Boulevard. A 65-year-old man died after being hit and dragged.

CLEARWATER — A 65-year-old man was hit by a car at U.S. 19 and Harn Boulevard and died at Bayfront Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the man crossed three lanes of stopped southbound traffic about 1:15 p.m. before falling into the path of a 1996 Ford Thunderbird rolling toward the eastbound turn lane. The man became lodged under the front bumper and was dragged about 30 feet before the car stopped. He will not be identified until his family is contacted by police.

Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said Jose Morales, 36, of Clearwater, will not be cited "since the pedestrian was at fault." At the time of the accident, the man was about 100 feet north of the nearest crosswalk. Police say Morales was just a turn away from his home at the Bay Cove Apartments when the accident happened.
