Man badly hurt crossing St. Pete Beach's Gulf Boulevard

ST. PETE BEACH — A man was badly injured Saturday night after being struck by a car as he ran across Gulf Boulevard, authorities said.

The pedestrian, Eric Jack Hampton, 58, of North Port was taken in serious condition to Bayfront Medical Center, according to Pinellas County sheriff's deputies.

The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Gulf Boulevard near 46th Avenue.

According to investigators, Hampton was crossing Gulf from east to west. He made it safely to the median, but as he ran the rest of the way was struck by a car driven by Susan W. Carlson, 69, of St. Pete Beach.

The accident remained under investigation.
