Man dies after driving off road in Sun City Center

SUN CITY CENTER — A man died late Sunday when he drove off the road and collided with a tree, according to Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies.

Paul A. Cardeau, 70, was headed north on Vilmot Greens Drive just after 11 p.m. in a Toyota Prius when he veered left onto the west shoulder, deputies said. Traveling at about 25 to 30 mph, Cardeau slammed into a tree.

He was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but early indications suggested that Cardeau suffered a medical issue behind the wheel, deputies said.
