DADE CITY — A man died Friday after he lost control of his pickup truck through a bend in the road and collided with an oncoming car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Michael James Prater, 38, of Brooksville was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger south on Bellamy Brothers Boulevard approaching Bent Fork Road around 1:25 p.m. Prater lost control of the truck and entered oncoming traffic, into the path of a 2015 Ford F-450 pickup, troopers said.
Prater was flown to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where he later died.
Robert Wayne Rutherford, 48, of Lake Panasoffkee, who was driving the F-450, suffered minor injuries. Rutherford's passenger, 21-year-old Evan John Webster of Spring Hill, wasn't injured.
All men were wearing their seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the incident, troopers said. Charges will not be filed against Rutherford, according to the Highway Patrol.
