Man dies after scooter hits sign post in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG — A man died Saturday when he drove into a bus stop sign while riding a scooter near the intersection of 30th Avenue N and 34th Street.

Gregory Alan McGlamery, 27, was riding a west about 1:40 p.m. on 30th Avenue N on a 2006 Vento motor scooter when he passed through the intersection of 34th Street, police said. McGlamery ran the scooter over a curb on the north side of 30th Avenue before his body hit a vertical sign post for a bus stop sign, officials said. The post knocked him off the scooter.

McGlamery was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet during the crash and was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol, police said. McGlamery's driver's license had been suspended April 21 due to a pending DUI charge, police said.

The crash remained under investigation.
